Nature Shows

Postby DianaR on Sat Jun 28, 2008 9:02 pm

I love the nature shows and marvel at how many of the animals begin to accept film crews as part of the usual scenery.

On Big Cat Diary the jaguars actually pull their kill under the film crew's jeep. I know I would be really honored, in their shoes. The only problem might be the cats' getting complacent and not think humans threatening.

Do you think these shows cause harm by allowing the animals close contact with humans or equipment, or do you think the messages about conservation and the beauty of nature, make the risk acceptable?

What is your favorite nature show?

I'm not big into those shows.I'm not an animal person.I enjoy the ones on sea life though if I watch them.I especially love the ones with baby sea turtles. They are too adorable!

I think the risk is acceptable.Just like with most shows there is risk of being hurt during a stunt or a scene. The animal kingdom needs known about and it's nice to know what's out there and that there is so much greater then the human race. So, it's well worth the slight risk in my opinion.

For example look at the crocodile hunter. Steve Irwin brought so many wonderful episodes and brought nature to people that otherwise wouldn't be interested. His daughter and wife are living his legacy and do things differently then Steve but still capture an audiance.

I don't think that are very dangerous risks as they are performed by professionals. And in other way, since it gives out very useful and interesting info's to people, these small risks can be adjusted.

Animal Planet provides quite quality programs too. I don't have Discovery or NGC but only Animal PLant and I like it so ;) But I suppose, NGC is far better than both of them.

I like all of the shows on animal planet, but my favorite nature show was the series called Blue Planet that was on a couple of months back. That time lapse photography just gets me every time!

The nature shows are quite good. I like watching about bears and fish especially. I also don't think that the shows do any harm to the animals because most of the time the cameras are so far from them that the animals aren't aware of them.

I also think that the television production team have to follow a lot of rules when they film animals to make sure that the animals are not harmed in anyway.
